Fireworks: sunkenButton

Here’s how you can make a button appear as if it is emerging from under the canvas. It looks so clickable, doesn’t it?

1

Using the Ellipse tool , create a circle on your canvas. Hold down the SHIFT key to make your shape maintain a 1:1 aspect ratio.

With this ellipse still selected, change the fill settings to match my example image below:

Set the gradient colors to #FFFFFF and #8D8D8D if you want to match my example exactly. Otherwise you can use a very light color and a matching darker color.

Using the the Pointer tool , drag the fill handles so that they look similar to my example image below.

2

With the ellipse still selected, got to Live Filters section in the Properties panel (see below) and click on the little + icon.

Choose Shadow and Glow | Inner Shadow and set the options like my example image below:

Your image should now look similar to my example image below.

3

With your ellipse still selected, go to the live filter area but this time choose Shadow and Glow | Drop Shadow. Set the options exactly like mine:

Do the exact same thing again but this time set the options like this:

Your image should now look similar to my example image below. See the 3-D effect that we just created in the lower right corner? Now we are going to do the exact same thing in the upper left corner.

4

Just like in step 3, go to the live filters area after selecting your object and choose Shadow and Glow | Drop Shadow. Set your options like mine below:

Do the exact same thing again but this time set the options like this:

Deselect everything and your image should look similar to my example image below.

The great thing about working in gray-scale is that we can easily apply a color filter without editing our original object. See my example images below:
